Aggiornamenti del programma IPL 2020: partite complete fuori, MI vs CSK in apertura
IPL 2020: Il più grande festival dell'India è tornato! Due delle squadre IPL di maggior successo, Mumbai Indians e Chennai Super Kings si affronteranno nell'apertura del torneo della 13a edizione della Indian Premier League il 19 settembre ad Abu Dhabi, dopo che BCCI ha annunciato il suo programma domenica. MI e CSK sono le due squadre che hanno giocato nelle finali dell'IPL 2019. Era la quarta volta che si sono incontrate in finale.
L'IPL di quest'anno si giocherà in tre diverse sedi negli Emirati Arabi Uniti: Dubai ospiterà 24 partite, seguita da Abu Dhabi (20) e Sharjah (12). Sebbene le finali si giocheranno il 10 novembre, BCCI deve ancora annunciare il programma degli spareggi.
Dubai ospiterà la seconda partita dell'IPL 2020 domenica, quando Delhi Capitals giocherà contro i Kings XI Punjab, seguita dalla terza partita tra Sunrisers Hyderabad e Royal Challengers Bangalore lunedì.
La quarta partita si sposterà quindi a Sharjah martedì, dove i Rajasthan Royals sfideranno Chennai Super Kings.
Come tutte le edizioni precedenti dell'IPL, ci saranno 10 partite giocate nello stesso giorno - una a partire dalle 15:30 IST / 14:00 UAE e l'altra alle 19:30 IST / 18:00 UAE. Tutte le otto squadre hanno raggiunto gli Emirati Arabi Uniti molto prima dell'inizio del torneo, per seguire i rigorosi protocolli di quarantena forniti dalla BCCI.
C'erano dubbi sul fatto che l'IPL inizierà in tempo, poiché lo scorso anno il secondo classificato Chennai Super Kings aveva segnalato 13 casi di Covid-19 tra il loro staff, inclusi due giocatori di cricket. Tuttavia, ha chiarito tutti i dubbi quando il CSK ha ripreso ad allenarsi venerdì dopo aver superato gli ultimi round dei test Covid-19. Deepak Chahar e Ruturaja Gaikwad, i due giocatori del CSK risultati positivi sono stati tenuti in isolamento e non si sono allenati con il resto della squadra. Possono riprendere l'addestramento solo dopo il test negativo e dopo aver completato ulteriori cicli di test.
Nel 2009, l'IPL si è svolto in Sud Africa a causa delle elezioni generali in India. Poi nel 2014, per lo stesso motivo, la prima metà del torneo è stata giocata negli Emirati Arabi Uniti. Questa sarà la prima volta che un'intera stagione dell'IPL si svolgerà negli Emirati Arabi Uniti a causa del crescente numero di casi di Coronavirus in India.
